Local Attractions
Okehampton
Goldburn Barns are situated in beautiful countryside approximately 2 miles from the market town of Okehampton. The town centre contains several supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, pubs and a cinema. For families with children, Simmonds park contains a swimming pool and a playground. Abbeyford Woods part of the forestry commission is within walking distance of the property. From here you can pick up the Tarka Trail and walk along the river Okement. In addition, the local pub at Folly gate can be reached by car in 5 minutes.
Exploring Dartmoor
Okehampton sits to the north of Dartmoor and so is perfected located for walkers. From Okehampton Station or nearby car parks, Dartmoor can be reached on foot. In addition, cyclists can access the Granite Way which offers a fun cycle ride to Meldon Viaduct and onwards to Lydford. A popular walk to Belstone Village takes you along the river where you will enjoy stunning views sitting on the green outside the Pub. If you want to go further afield you can visit Castle Drogo and enjoy walks to Fingle Bridge or maybe afternoon tea at Bovey Castle.
Cycling Route No. 27
Goldburn Barns are situated on the cycle route No. 27 which provides cyclists with direct access to the famous Tarka Trail. From here, depending on your level of experience you can ride to Meeth and onwards to Bideford and the North Devon coast.
The Coast
For beach lovers and surfers, North Cornwall and North Devon can be reached by car in 45 minutes. Westward Ho and Bude are both popular options and contain several beaches. East Devon also offers a range of beaches such as Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton which can be reached easily from Exeter. For day trippers there are many stunning fishing villages in Cornwall that can be assessed from the A30.
